Over the last five decades, Japan has quietly shaped global fashion by combining traditional artisan techniques—like silk embroidery and shuttle-looming—with modern innovation. Among its most celebrated exports is the Suka jacket, or Souvenir Jacket.

Originating in the 1940s around the Yokosuka naval base, American servicemen commissioned local craftspeople to personalize baseball-style jackets with vibrant silk embroidery and Eastern-inspired motifs as mementos of their time in Japan. These distinctive garments soon evolved from post-war souvenirs into symbols of 1960s rock-and-roll, counterculture, and Japanese street style.

Today, authentic Sukajan represent a rare intersection of military history, cultural rebellion, and master-level Japanese craftsmanship.
